Andi Balla is a doctoral researcher at the Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies (IOS) in Regensburg, Germany, where he explores the effect of public narratives on Albania’s demographics as part of the Volkswagen Foundation-funded “Transforming Anxieties of Ageing in Southeastern Europe” project. He comes to this research field after a career as a journalist and media development expert in the Western Balkans, Canada and the United States, where he focused on reporting on demographics and migration among several other topics. A doctoral candidate at the University of Regensburg's Graduate School for East and Southeast European Studies, he also holds an M.Sc. from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism and a B.Sc. from the University of Wyoming.
