Profile
Miha Zobec began his professional career as a junior researcher at the Department of History, University of Maribor. Subsequently, he taught Slovene language, history and humanities at the Slovene-language grammar schools in Trieste and Gorizia. In 2019, he obtained the post-doctoral project and joined Slovenian Migration Institute at the Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts. In the project, he studies state-diaspora relations in the context of the first Yugoslavia, trying to compare attitudes of the emigrants in South America with those in the United States. In particular, he aims to highlight relations which the emigrants of Julian March and Prekmurje developed towards their Yugoslav "homeland." As these regions underwent border shifts following the Great War, the emigrants from these territories were subject to competitive states' interests. During his stay at the IOS he plans to do additional research and work on the manuscript addressing the aforementioned issues.
